Major Phase 3 Trial Shows Zevalin® Extends Progression-Free Survival ...

The major multinational, randomized Phase 3 First-Line Indolent Trial (FIT), with Zevalin ([90Y]-ibritumomab tiuxetan), has met its primary endpoint. The trial demonstrated an improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with advanced follicular lymphoma (FL) treated with Zevalin as first-line consolidation therapy.

In the trial, patients received either Zevalin or no further treatment after at least a partial response to initial induction treatment. Patients in the Zevalin study arm experienced longer PFS compared to those patients in the observation arm.

"Despite improvements in recent years, follicular lymphoma is still challenging to treat and many patients experience a relapse following treatment. An important goal of consolidation therapy is to ensure that, for patients who respond to initial induction therapy, the quality of their response is improved and therefore, their remission period is long-lasting", said Dr.

Greg Williams 'Hammers' The Ticket

On Friday, October 12, the most popular sports talk radio show in the history of Dallas prepared for a routine remote broadcast at Addison's Blackfin Pub. KTCK-1310 AM The Ticket afternoon co-host Mike Rhyner arrived on time. Longtime sidekick Greg Williams, however, was alarmingly tardy.

Williams—"The Hammer" to a legion of loony fans that consistently makes the irreverent guy-talk station No. 1 in the market—finally appeared, albeit noticeably fidgety and audibly discombobulated. And then, just one segment into the four-hour show, he abruptly up and left.

No one's sure where Williams had been. But now we know where he was headed—down a dangerous, dark detour toward self-destruction. One that, according to multiple sources, ultimately landed him in rehab for a cocaine problem.

Survival In Hepatitis C Virus Patients Prolonged By 24-Week Course Of ...

Patients with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) have a risk of frequent recurrence and deterioration of liver function, even after curative treatment for the primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This unfavorable prognosis is associated with a sustained HCV infection. Thus, both the prevention of HCC recurrence and the preservation of liver function are high priorities when trying to improve the prognosis of patients with HCV-related HCC. Antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C (HCV) after treatment for primary HCC is the essential factor required for an improved prognosis.

A research article written by a study group at Japan's Hiroshima University Hospital, published on October 28 in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, suggests the importance of viral eradication. This study group performed a matched case-controlled study and compared 42 patients undergoing a 24-week course of interferon therapy and 42 patients who did not receive any interferon therapy.

As Baby Boomers Age, Staying Active Is A Top Priority

While boomers remain young at heart, they are determined to retain the physical ability to continue doing the things they love. One of the biggest factors in staying active is maintaining healthy knees. Genzyme's Synvisc® helps make sure their knees will carry them into the next stage of their lives.

Cambridge, Mass. (PRWEB) August 22, 2006 -- With baby boomers turning 60 this year, this generation of post-war babies is going to make sure that they don't age like their parents. And while these boomers remain young at heart, they are determined to retain the physical ability to continue doing the things they love. One of the biggest factors in staying active is maintaining healthy knees.

When patients begin to suffer the onset of osteoarthritis (OA), early diagnosis and treatment are keys to maintaining mobility.

Friday wild card

I felt like a proud papa watching his talented siblings go after one another. 'Tis extremely hard not to post or respond to comments. But it appears that Blogmeister Ken Paulman has things very well in hand. So, 'tis time to catch some Zzzzz's and prepare for my final -- I hope! -- day of painting. While I paint and sweat (do you think this is how Duane Hagadone paints his house?), you can use this Wild Card to start threads of your own. Also, remember, you can forward Ken links, questions, comments, photos, etc., for him to post here for you ...

Some with breast cancer can skip chemo

Thousands of breast cancer patients each year could be spared chemotherapy or get gentler versions of it without harming their odds of beating the disease, new research suggests.

One study found that certain women did better - were less likely to die or have a relapse - if given a less harsh drug than Adriamycin, a mainstay of treatment for decades.

Another study found that a gene test can help predict whether some women need chemo at all - even among those whose cancer has spread to their lymph nodes, which typically brings full treatment now.

The findings are sure to speed the growing trend away from chemo for many breast cancer patients and targeting it to a smaller group of women who truly need it, doctors said Thursday at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, where the studies were reported.

Richard Roberts issues rebuttal to 35 allegations

Read the latest stories about the ORU lawsuit, examine the lawsuit and other documents and watch slide shows and video.

Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts issued a point-by-point rebuttal Friday to 35 allegations contained in a lawsuit alleging a variety of wrongdoing.

Roberts and his attorney, Frank Hagedorn, released the document to the Tulsa World. It contains responses to allegations contained in two versions of a document allegedly prepared by Stephanie Cantees, the sister of Roberts' wife, Lindsay. The versions were attached to a lawsuit filed by three former professors against Roberts, ORU and other defendants.

Roberts told the World on Friday that he saw some of the Cantees memo about three years ago but other parts of it were not written by her.
